What is a Doula?

A Doula is a professional who is trained to provide informational, emotional and physical support to a parent before, during and after childbirth to help achieve the most desired and healthiest experience possible.

Doulas have been used for Centuries!

Types of Doulas

There are different types of Doulas but all serve the purpose to help new parents in a very important time in life. There are Postpartum Doulas, Birth Doulas and Antepartum Doulas. Birth Doulas provide support before, during and immediately after labor. Postpartum Doulas provide support to parents after the baby is born. Antepartum Doulas help during high-risk and difficult pregnancies.\

Giving birth is a lifechanging  experience!

My birth experiences were a little traumatic. I remember after I had my first daughter I saw ALL people who had given birth differently! I had a new respect for all the mothers and parents I know. I remember not knowing what to do or say during labor and being scared. I have the most supportive family and mother. They helped me during labor and still help me every day but we were all not informed of the birth process and how YOU are in charge. I kind of just sat there in pain during contractions, trying not to move and trying to be a “good patient”. I know I would of benefited from having a Doula with me during my births. YOU are in charge of how you want to give birth and how you want your experience to be. A birth Doula would have been there to help me through contractions and get me in different positions that are beneficial for baby to progress during the stages of labor. They would have helped comfort me and my partner and helped me advocate for my birth plan. I also think having a postpartum Doula is very beneficial. Can you believe they don’t send you home with a “How to be a parent” pamphlet or anything?! Its just like yupp you had a major life event of having a baby here you go! With a Doula you have a non-judgmental person there with you for this life changing experience to help guide and support you! We are all in this together!

"If you are expecting or breastfeeding you need Chrissy in your corner. This was my third pregnancy but my youngest was 14 so needless to say I needed a little refresh. I had my son during the height of the pandemic by cesarean. I was released from the hospital two days early and Trey was dropping weight and not latching on. Trey turned out to be tongue tied and couldn't get a proper latch right away. I was anxious that he wasn't eating enough until he could have it fixed. Chrissy answered every text and late night phone call to talk me through it and help me. I had to pump milk until he could get a proper latch. She went over the different breast pumps and which ones she likes for different reasons. Chrissy helped me find the pump that suited me best. Baby Trey is now a well fed 8 month old breast fed baby. It's hard to believe he even struggled at the beginning, he's doing so well now! Chrissy truly is the best! "

'Working with Chrissy through H.E.R. Doula Services has brought so much peace, comfort, and ease to my postpartum period. Chrissy helped me during the most challenging first few months after delivery. This was my first baby and her knowledge of postpartum care for the mother and infant care greatly helped me navigate the difficulties that arose. Chrissy is not just a professional, trained and qualified doula, she is flexible, open-minded, and above all kind. She is a wonderful listener who gives solid helpful advice that is backed training, knowledge, and the experience of being a mom of 3 young children herself! She helped me get my feet on the ground after returning home from the hospital. She supported me in adjusting to motherhood, caring for an infant, and a new home that we moved into just a week before due date. In addition to her doula background, Chrissy is trained in breastfeeding and massage therapy. I asked her to support me with both! Breastfeeding was initially very challenging for me, did not go as planned and caused me such stress. Chrissy helped me understand breastfeeding mechanics, find the right pump, and develop a healthy feeding routine for my baby. My baby is now healthy, strong, and growing wonderfully! I also got a few nice back massages ;) The last point is about flexibility and Chrissy's understanding of the need to change schedules sometimes last minute and her willingness to adjust to your needs of the day. I highly recommend H.E.R. Doula Services to support mothers at whatever stage they find themselves.

"Her doula services was a God send to my family and I. As much as you can say you’re prepared , you are never prepared in the world of childbirth. My plans started to derail when I went into labor 2 weeks early and my Dr. was on vacation. I started to panic! I had to have the on call doctor and I was so nervous! He didn’t know me or my plan. I felt like my voice wasn’t going to be heard and my birth plan was out the window. That wasn’t the case when Christine got to the hospital my fears were diminished. She made sure my birth plan was followed, made sure I was in charge 100% of the time, and was amazing support for me and my family. It comes natural with her. She's gentle, sweet, kind, and an expert in her field. The weeks after birth were hard for me. She was there for me 24/7 and even came to my house many times at 2 a.m. when my nerves and postpartum  depression was at a high. She walked me through this journey and I am so thankful for her support and expertise. She truly is an angel!"
